The Illumishade
When East Coast Umbrella reached out looking for a new solar-powered LED patio umbrella for their commercial clients, it was the start of a full development engagement built on an existing relationship. Having previously collaborated with ECU on fiberglass and heavy-duty aluminum umbrellas, I understood their standards and customer base. I conducted market research to define features and specifications, then developed the concept through sketching, 2D technical drawings, and 3D renderings. Working alongside a solar engineer to integrate the lighting system, I collaborated with manufacturing to refine sample units through testing and iteration, and contributed copywriting to support the product through to launch. The umbrella went into mass production, now offered as part of ECU's commercial line.
